College Lifestyle Blog - Fashion - Change your outfit

One of the lowest points in life is when you find that you have a closet full of clothing but nothing to wear. Typically, the quickest fix for this dilemma is to shop for new clothes, but sometimes you’re not looking to spend much. Luckily, there’s another solution to your fashion crisis, and the best part is that you probably already have everything you need in your wardrobe. Check these quick tips to effortlessly restore your “plain Jane” style.

Cuff your Jeans

There’s a distinct style difference between outfits with cuffed jeans and with un-cuffed jeans. When you cuff, you create sharp edges, which lead to a crisp, polished style. It’s a particularly nice move when you’re going for a smart, casual look. On the other hand, for those of you who typically cuff your jeans, perhaps try un-cuffing them to achieve a more casual, day-to-day vibe.

Try crew socks

I know what you’re thinking. Crew socks remind you of your childhood and ankle socks are the new wave. But not too fast – crew socks might just be the perfect article to revamp your look. Try wearing them with bottoms that end somewhere above the ankle (shorts, dress, cuffed jeans) and with shoes that lace up. You’ll watch your outfit take a stylistic twist right before your eyes.

Tie something around your waist

How many times have you put on a classic v-neck top with jeans and thought, “wow, blah?” Too many times, I assume. Tying a flannel, denim shirt or jacket around your waist can be the single thing you need to add a fashionable touch to your fit. What’s even better about this is that you have the luxury of layering clothing without it making you hot – something that can otherwise be pretty difficult to achieve on warm days.

Tuck your shirt in

Perhaps this seems too middle school uniform to you, but it can actually give your outfit a bit of character. Take it back to the 90s and tuck your shirt tightly into high rise jeans, or go for a creative look by tucking it in loosely only in the front. Alternatively, if you always tuck you shirts in, try untucking it for once. Either way, changing your typical style can be a necessary switch when the goal is to spice up your image.

Wear a statement accessory

This almost goes without saying, but it’s important to stress how much your accessories can change your outfit! Wearing large hoop earrings, a denim dad hat, a suede choker, some mirror sunglasses or a nice leather belt can give you the fashionable look you were hoping to achieve. Just make sure you don’t overdo it – too many statement items can end up making you look tacky.
